Every year in France, thousands of workplace accidents occur, sometimes due to a lack of rapid response. Training employees to intervene effectively can save lives. That is the whole objective of SST training (Sauveteur Secouriste du Travail / Workplace First Aid Responder): to give everyone the skills to act in an emergency situation while preventing occupational risks.

In a context where health and safety at work are becoming priorities for employers, Didask supports training organizations and companies in implementing effective SST courses.

In brief
  • SST training lasts 14 hours (2 days) and alternates between theory and practice
  • It is regulated by INRS and awards a certificate valid for 24 months
  • Mandatory in certain sectors, it is recommended for all companies
  • The SST becomes a key player in workplace prevention and safety
  • Funding can be covered by the company or an OPCO

What is SST training?

SST training aims to train employees capable of helping anyone who is the victim of an accident or illness at work. It meets a requirement of the French Labour Code and is governed by INRS (National Institute for Research and Security).

Trainees learn first aid actions, the reflexes to adopt in an emergency situation, and the preventive posture to help prevent accidents from recurring.

The Workplace First Aid Responder thus becomes a key safety player within their company: they know how to alert emergency services, protect people, examine the victim, and act until professional help arrives.

Who is SST training intended for?

This professional training is open to all employees, regardless of their position or level of responsibility.

It is particularly recommended in high-risk sectors (manufacturing, logistics, construction, hospitality, healthcare...), but remains relevant in any professional environment.

Employers also have a strategic interest: it meets their legal obligations regarding safety while strengthening prevention within their organization.

Some companies choose to integrate SST training into their employee onboarding process, in order to raise awareness about safety culture and first aid from day one.

Note

Article R4224-15 of the French Labour Code requires at least one employee trained in first aid in each workshop where hazardous work is performed, and on each worksite employing 20 or more people for more than 15 days.

How does the SST training take place?

SST training generally takes place on 2 days (i.e. 14 hours) and Alternate theory and practice.

It includes:

  • Learning emergency actions in the face of a work accident or discomfort,
  • The establishment of a rescue situation and emergency alert,
  • Understanding the role of the SST in risk prevention
  • Assessments to validate the skills acquired.

At the end of the session, the trainee obtains an SST certificate delivered by an authorized INRS trainer. This certificate is valid for 24 months, after which a skills update (MAC SST) is required to maintain its level of efficiency.

The financing of training SST can be supported by the company, an OPCO or integrated into a skills development plan.

Good to know

The SST certificate is recognized as equivalent to the "Prévention et Secours Civiques de niveau 1" (PSC1) qualification, France's standard first aid certification. An SST-trained employee can therefore intervene both in the workplace and in everyday life.

The benefits of SST training for your employees and your business

Training Workplace First Aid Responders means investing in the safety, prevention, and well-being of your employees. It also means promoting the image of a responsible company, in compliance with regulations and concerned about employee health.

In the event of a workplace accident, the responsiveness of an SST can make the difference between a minor incident and an avoided tragedy.

Here are the main benefits of SST training:

Reducing the risk of workplace accidents

Thanks to strengthened skills, SST responders contribute directly to preventing and reducing workplace accidents. They know how to identify their role, spot dangerous situations, and act quickly in the event of an incident.

Improving safety culture

SST training creates a strong bond between employees around a common objective: workplace safety. It promotes collective awareness and increased involvement in preventive actions.

Positive impact on productivity and well-being

Employees who are trained and confident in emergency situations work in a more serene environment. The company gains in commitment, motivation, and productivity.
